Cowley First-Cowley County Economic Development is partnering with Cowley County School Districts, local businesses, organizations and educational institutions to host the second annual Career Expo for high school freshman.
The intent of the event is to expose students to a wide range of careers. Businesses and educational institutions are invited to attend and provide a hands-on activity or demonstration pertaining to a career or careers plus provide pertinent information such as career opportunities at their business or in their career field, cost of education at their college, career outlook, etc. Information may be provided through a variety of ways such signage, displays, or hand outs.
The venue will be sectioned by career clusters and students will be encouraged to go to at last three clusters during their 2 hour shift and visit/participate at the booths” or “stations” at their pace. Students will be given a “map” showing where each cluster is located in the venue. We expect about 300 students first shift of 9:00-11:00 and 250 students 1:00-3:00.
Participants may have as much space as needed as some will be bringing vehicles and equipment, have large demonstrations or only require a table. Weather permitting, there is ample outdoor space as well.
Businesses and career clusters may give away items, have prize drawings and come up with ways to encourage students to come to your booth or multiple booths in your career cluster. If you know of anyone else that we should be including in this event, please let me know. We want this to be an amazing event for all of our participants and your input is very helpful to us.
Because of the nature of this event there are very few “rules” or “guidelines” as to what we expect from the participating businesses and colleges. We are confident that you, an expert in your field, will have creative ideas as to how to present careers to high school freshman.
Thank you for your commitment to career expo. An event of this magnitude is not possible without help from businesses such as yours. Any questions, concerns and ideas can be directed to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 620-221-9951.
With great appreciation,
