FUN FACT: United States discovery of helium took place in Dexter in 1903.
Dexter is nestled in one of the southernmost areas of the famed Flint Hills.
The vibrant community was established on the banks of Grouse Creek, which was officially labeled a “pristine” waterway by the State of Kansas, and has a population of approximately 300.
Known for the discovery of helium, and the still-operating, four generation Henry’s Candy Factory – home of the O’Henry’s candy bar — Dexter citizens do not rest on their laurels, but continue to prosper. This is exemplified by the number of businesses and attractions that call Dexter home.
The Flint Hills surrounding Dexter (where cabins and lodging are available to seasonal visitors) offer prime hunting and fishing arenas, which attract sportsman from across the country. Romantic, century old, stone arch bridges hidden throughout the area also attract tourists to the region. Not only are visitors welcomed, but also new residents looking to raise their family in a close-knit community.
