This is an entry-level position. Under direction of the Director of Materials, purchasing manager and senior buyers, procures assigned materials, components, supplies, equipment and services that meet the operation’s requirements for quality, delivery, price, terms, lead times, and inventory levels.

 

Essential Function

 

Supports senior buyers and purchasing manager on procurement issues, i.e. invoice and receipt discrepancies, expediting orders, engineering changes, etc.

Procures materials to meet the goals of Western Industries Plastic Products regarding inventory turns, cost, quality, and customer requirements.

Assists in the supplier qualification process, and supports cross-functional teams in auditing/qualifying new sources of supply including vendor set-up.

Places purchase orders/scheduling agreements and communicates blanket order requirements to suppliers.

Determines most economical lot size and supplier lead times for purchasing components.

Conducts quoting activities to ensure best total cost for assigned commodities.

Partners with Engineering in the new product development initiatives ensuring a thorough understanding of product specifications and researching existing or new products including negotiating price.

Supports commodity cost reduction, lead time reduction and supplier consolidation projects.

Supports inventory management programs with supply base that includes vendor stocking, consignment, vendor-managed inventory, etc.

Competencies

 

Ability to navigate and complete tasks using the purchasing module and the inventory control module.

Ability to create & maintain spreadsheets, and to file alphabetically and or numerically.

Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to use available sources to research requested items, potential suppliers, and costing.

Capable of applying critical thinking to solve complex problems Read, Write and Speak English Strong attention to detail and prioritization skills .Supervisory Responsibility

 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment

 

This job operates in a clerical and shop floor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Shop floor area is not climate controlled and can have moderate to high noise levels.

 

Physical Demands

 

Stress involve in meeting daily deadlines of purchasing and other business department request. Operation of office equipment including but not limited to computer, fax, and phone. Other physical demands include standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds, bending, swatting, reaching, twisting and grasping objects.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

Travel

 

Occasional Travel may be required

 

Required Education and Experience

 

High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related commercial or technical degree preferred One to three years of experience in purchasing or production and inventory control.

Good communication skills both written and verbal.

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Negotiation skills required.

Proficient computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience in a team environment desirable.

CPSM certification desirable.
